The Freakonomics blog described Lynch’s article as a point-by-point demolition of the peak oil argument. Well they must have been looking at a different article!
Lynch makes a series of generalized assertions.
I was alerted to Peak Oil when my son was a gelogy undergraduate.
Based on the Peak Oil, I have just installed geothermal heating and cooling so as to prepare for a future where energy costs significantly more.

Renewable energy and hydrogen can replace oil over time as an energy source, which will allow oil and other carbon resources to be used primarily as a materials production feedstock. This can provide an energy and materials sustainable future.
