I don’t have any real problem with the text except that it lacks something when they cite that oil production is declining in existing fields by 4 million barrels/day per year.
The number is correct, but they also must state that the oil industry is doing everything possible to compensate for this decline. They are bringing new fields into production, they are trying to improve production from old fields, but all this is now very expensive. Last year they just managed to compensate for the natural decline and they are counting on doing it also this year. One of the largest single additions in the future, 1 million barrels per day, will come from the Karsgan oilfield in Kazakstan. The field was found in 2000 and the plan was that it should be in production by now. Then the estimated production start was delayed to 2011 with maximum production in 2018, but now there are even further delays.
If we are going to have the same volume of oil production in 2018 as we have today then we will need to bring in 30-40 million barrels per day of new production. One million from Karsgan is useful, but how much more will they succeed in bringing on line?
When they found Karsgan it was the biggest field that had been found in the last 20 years and they estimated that it should yield 10-12 billion barrels of oil, i.e. as much as the world uses today in 4 months.
We do not know how much oil really exists in the new fields off Brazil’s coast. If the figure of 30 billion barrels is correct then they have found one year’s consumption. We will come back to this field in a few years when we know more.

Jag har inga större problem med texten utom i ett fall och det är att det saknas en del då man citerar att oljeproduktionen minskar i befintliga fält med 4 miljoner fat om året.
Siffran är riktig, men man måste ha med kommentaren att oljeindustrin gör allt för att kompensera denna minskning. Man tar in nya fält i produktionen,, man försöker förbättra produktionen fån gamla, men allt detta är numera väldigt dyrt. Förra året klarade man precis utav att kompensera den naturliga minskningen och man räknar med att göra det även i år. Ett av de största enskilda tillskottet i framtiden, 1 miljon fat om dagen, skall komma från oljefältet Karsgan i Kazakstan. Man hittade fältet år 2000 och det borde varit i produktion nu. Sedan var budet 2011 med maxproduktion 2018, men nu är det ytterligare fördröjningar på gång.
Om vi 2018 skall ha samma produktion som idag måste man fram till dess plocka in 30 till 40 miljoner fat om dagen i ny produktion. En miljon från Karsgan är välbehövligt, men hur mycket mer skall man lyckas plocka in.
Då man hittade Karsgan var det det största fält som man hittat de senaste 20 åren och man beräknade att det skulle finnas 10 till 12 miljarder fat olja, dvs lika mycket som världen idag konsumerar under 4 månader.
Vi vet inte hur mycket det i verkligheten finns i det nya fältet utanför Brasiliens kust. Skulle siffran 30 miljarder fat vara riktig så har man hittat ett års konsumtion. Vi får återkomma till det fältet då vi om något år vet mer.
