This year’s ASPO conference in Barcelona concluded with a day where we discussed how Peak Oil will affect us in the future. A summary will follow in a few days on the ASPO homepage. There were 13 presentations in total plus my summary of the conference.
Very frequently I receive questions about my view on the future price of oil and I usually answer that the price will be what we are willing to pay. An explanation of the high price of oil in July is that China filled its reserves before the Olympics and they were willing to pay a high price since they wanted all their preparations to go perfectly. The volume that was sold increased by 1 million barrels per day. The storages of the oil producing nations were emptied. Now sales have declined by 1 million barrels per day and the price has fallen to a level that it would have if the “Olympics Effect” could be removed from the equation. The question is if we will ever see a higher production level.

Årets ASPO- konferens i Barcelona avslutades med en dag där vi diskuterade hur Peak Oil kommer att påverka oss i framtiden. En sammanfattning kommer om några dagar på ASPO:s hemsida. Totalt var det 13 föredrag och min sammanfattning av konferensen.
Väldigt ofta får jag frågor om min åsikt om framtidens pris på olja och vanligtvis brukar jag svara att priset blir vad vi är villiga att betala. En förklaring till det höga oljepriset i juli är att Kina fyllde på sina reserver inför olympiaden och man var villiga att betala ett högt pris eftersom allting skulle vara perfekt. Den volym som såldes ökade med 1 miljon fat om dagen. De oljeproducerande ländernas lager tömdes. Nu har försäljningen minskat med 1 miljon fat om dagen och priset har gått ner till en nivå som det skulle ha om man bortser från ”Olympiadeffekten”. Frågan är om vi någonsin kommer att se en högre produktionssiffra.
