This evening I saw the British documentary, “The spies who fooled the world”. (BBC originally showed the film on 18 March). The conclusion of the film is that the information on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was made up (see the documentary “In English“).
The film ends with one of the “spies” being confronted by the following assertion: “The fact is that we went to war in Iraq on a lie and that lie was your lie,” and the answer was “Yes”. They assert that the war was a conscious choice but they chose the wrong intelligence information to justify it. Any reason for the war other than that they wanted to get rid of Saddam Hussein was never discussed. How could they be so “oil blind”?
The next war in the Middle East may soon be reality. Now Syria is in question. On 30 August The Guardian published an article with the following headline “Syria intervention plan fueled by oil interests, not chemical weapon concern ”. The British House of Commons voted no to war and we will see what the American Congress says. Even if oil is not the primary reason this time it is always there in the background.

I kväll har jag sett den Brittiska dokumentären ”The spies who fooled the world”. (BBC visade filmen den 18 mars) Slutsatsen är att informationen om massförstörelsevapen i Irak var påhittad (se dokumentären “In Swedish“, “In English“).
Filmen avslutas med att en av ”spionerna” konfronterades med följande påståend:
”The fact is that we went to war in Iraq on a lay and that lay was your lay,” och svaret blev “Yes”.
Man hävdar att kriget var ett medvetet val men att man valde felaktig underrättelseinformationen för att motivera kriget. Någon annan anledning än att man ville ha bort Saddam Husein diskuterades aldrig. Hur kunde man vara så ”oljeblinda”?
Nästa krig i Mellanöstern kan snart bli verklighet, nu gäller det Syrien. Den 30 augusti publicerade The Guardian en artikel med följande rubrik ”Syria intervention plan fueled by oil interests, not chemical weapon concern”. Det Brittiska underhuset sa nej till krig och vi får se vad den amerikanska kongressen säger. Även om olja inte är den primära orsaken denna gång så finns den alltid med i bakgrunden.
